Dennis Huntley

More than five decades of exploration, leadership, and pushing the limits of Southern Appalachian whitewater. Dennis Huntley was one of the early explorers of the Green and Linville Rivers, making the first descent of Linville Gorge. On Wilson Creek, Huntley’s Retreat bears his name. A charter member of the Carolina Canoe Club, Dennis has led CCC trips for more than 50 years, inspiring generations of paddlers, club leaders, and advocates. From C1 and K1 to open boats and rafts, Dennis has done it all. And he’s still out there running hard whitewater and mentoring the next generation of Southern Appalachian boaters. A pioneer.
